7 local essentials for your perfect ‘holiday home’ hamper

Who doesn’t love arriving at their holiday home and being welcomed by a thoughtful hamper of goodies? And curating a personalised welcome hamper is another way to reflect the care you have put in to designing the perfect holiday home. It’s your opportunity to show off what Leicestershire has to offer and share your favourite local businesses and treats.

I’ve put together a list of seven things I love to see in a welcome hamper, I’ve not been paid for any of the links I’ve suggested, they’re other small businesses that are local to me and that I admire.

I’d love to know your ideas for what to include in a perfect holiday home hamper.

Do you own an airbnb or holiday let?

With holiday lets being an additional income, here’s how to make your home stand out, choosing

the best products to welcome your guests to the area and showcase what Leicestershire has to offer.

  1. Tea, coffee & milk.

Get your basics in, we travel the length and breadth of the country for our holidays, and we want to feel at home immediately. They say 41% of Brits can’t even function without a cuppa! Let’s get that hamper stocked with tea, coffee and milk so your guests can function straight away. Jute Coffee, Carrara Coffee and Well Roasted Coffee all roast their beans here in Leicestershire, spoilt for choice! Head over to sample the different coffees at local coffee shops and choose your favourite to compliment your hamper. A personal recommendation is so very appreciated.

  2. Brochures for local tourist attractions.

Yes - it’s this obvious, but your guests may not be local at all! They won’t necessarily know that the Wistow Maze is just up the road, or that Westlodge Farm Park is brilliant for children in all weathers. Share your local knowledge, what’s unmissable for littles, perfect dog walks, landmarks worth seeing. Including a few suggestions in a hamper is just a small nudge to enjoy what Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire have to offer. It shows you’ve got your guests in mind, and they can relax knowing the research is done for them.

  3. A boozy beverage.

So many of us Brits love a drink, it usually means the end of a long day, or the start of a relaxing weekend. Duncan at Duncan Murray Wines, has so much knowledge and enthusiasm for advising what wine (or other spirited drink) would be best to showcase Leicestershire. We’ve also got the Langton Brewery near us. You can visit their brewery and bottle shop to pick up some hand crafted, good beer for your perfect holiday hamper.

  4. Something refreshing for the sober.

Your holiday let might be all about clean living, and even if not, you’ll want to offer something for the non-drinkers. We’re so lucky to have Jaga produce incredible energising, light and refreshing drinks right here in Leicestershire. And, their packaging is a work of art, making your holiday hamper look stunning and luxurious.

  5. Where to eat, recommendations.

Use this opportunity to really get to know your local area, where is your favourite spot for dinner? Is it dog friendly (the first thing I look for when searching for somewhere to eat), do they cater for little ones well, do they make the BEST Vegan fare, pie, ploughmans? Have an explore and leave your notes in your hamper, again, personal recommendations take the guess work out of the equation, your guests will thank you for making their stay with you relaxing and easy.

  6. A bag of Mhudge.

Of course I would say that! This is your chance to show off some of the awesome food that Leicestershire has to offer, Nenette handcrafted Chocolates, a fresh loaf of Hambleton Bakery bread, a cake from Butterwick. Not only are you supporting local with your purchase, but you’re sharing ‘insider knowledge’ with your guests, and we’re worth shouting about! So without sounding too salesy, if you’ve got a holiday let and know the value of a personal touch, hit the contact me button and we can talk :)

  7. A natural dog treat.

So many of us travel with our furry friends, why not add in a small thoughtful gift for them too. Indi Pet Supplies at Pennbury Farm, Great Glen Leicestershire have some great options that you can stop in and pick up (make sure you pop round the other lovely shops and cafe on site) or they can post out to you. The pooches and owners will thank you!
